All of my work ended in Pekanbaru and it was time to go back to Korea.  Before boarding the Air Asia X D7 506 from Kuala Lumpur to Seoul/Incheon (Trip Report for Air Asia X D7 506 KUL-ICN), I had to take a short hop across the Malacca Strait from Pekanbaru to Kuala Lumpur.
Air Asia was the best option for me in terms of price, but I found out there's a lot of exit fee/taxes that Indonesia charges to travelers. Those fees added up to about 50 USD.
The check-in was slow due to large numbers of families that were traveling on today's flight to Malaysia. Each family had to have its own issues that took forever for the check-in agents to solve. I eventually checked into my flight, went up through security and customs and arrived at the gate waiting room. It was very cold in the airport by the way. They surely dogood job of keeping inside cool from hot weather outside.

The waiting area for all four of the gates in Pekanbaru Airport.

My plane just arrived from Kuala Lumpur. The boarding bridges were still under construction at the time I visited Pekanbaru. I hear that the boarding bridges are now fully operational.

Boarding

Since the the gate's boarding bridge wasn't open yet, we went downstairs to take a shuttle to the aircraft.

Not really used to boarding planes from the ramp, but I'm experiencing it a lot more these days with Air Asia!

The plane was trying to cool down from the hot weather outside.

The seats on the red have little bit more pitch.

Since I wasn't able to choose my own seat beforehand, I got the aisle seat this time. I ended up switching over to a window seat later on.

I asked one of the flight attendants if I could switch over to a window seat in English. She replied kindly that I could.

No taxiway along the runway here, so our plane taxied on the runway and turned around at the end before taking off toward north.

Just powering up.

This city is Pekanbaru.

And the coast of Sumatra Island.

And not long later we were already approaching KUL.

This flight felt a lot shorter than Silk Air SIN-PKU.

It's a first time I'm seeing the sharklets on an A320!

This was my second time arriving into KLIA LCCT.

There were a lot of international passengers from many other flights. I've spotted many Australians here.

All international flight arrivals go through this door.
