After another short trip to Peru, I boarded the returning flight back to USA on 28th of January. It was with LAN Airlines (my first time flying with the airline), and it was a red-eye flight that left at midnight and arrived in JFK in the morning same day. Many flights bound for USA or Europe left around the same time from the airport. There was a red-eye flight bound for Argentina next to my flight.
My friend graciously gave me ride to Jorge Chavez Intl Airport all the way from Lima University. The airport wasn't crowded at all, but there were significant amount of passengers departing for USA or Europe that same time.

On the way to the airport, we stopped by at a Mapy's store to grab some Empanadas.

After good-byes with friends, I headed inside the terminal. The left half of the terminal are international counters.

My boarding pass for tonight's flight.

This is the southern end of the departures concourse where many flights bound for Europe and USA were concentrated in.

My LA 530 flight was getting ready to board. Next to my gate were LAN flights bound for San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami.

The boarding groups are divided according to the row passengers are seated in.

The left plane is my flight bound for New York. The right plane is bound for Miami.

The seats are either Purple or Blue in colors

AVOD system that did not have much choices.

Next to my flight was probably Newark or Houston-bound United flight

Push-back

Not too long after take-off (maybe one hour), we got a midnight snack.

It was a sandwich that had cheese, ham, and tomatoes. Dessert was a Banana Cake

LA 530 is a two-segment flight from Santiago, Chile to New York-JFK. That's why the flight route map shows route all the way from Santiago.

I woke from a good 5-hour long sleep around this point.

And the breakfast was served.

The breakfast was an omelette with no meat, fruits, banana bread, and bread. .

Looks like it's going to be cold, cloudy day in New York!

Vamos Para Machu Picchu: The Flight Back to Lima

I departed from Cuzco back to Lima on Friday, 25 JAN. The day prior, after coming back from Cuzco, I got very sick from altitude sickness. The head actually started pounding severely the closer I got to Cuzco (Machu Picchu is actually lower altitude than Cuzco).  The sickness intensified as soon as I got back to hostel (luckily at least..) and continued until I vomited.  I felt a lot better afterwards and slept very early that night.  I was planning to explore some attractions and some famed restaurants in Cuzco, but I had no choice but to stay in bed..
The day after, in order to make it to 08:50 flight, I left for the airport around 6AM just to be safe. The flight would be through TACA airlines, with stopover in Arequipa Airport (which is south of both cities). A 50 minute long flight turned into a 3-hour long itinerary.
Cuzco had a lot of people in the airport. The TACA counter line moved very slowly. I was glad I came early.

At around 8:20AM, my flight arrived from Lima.

Boarding~

To the left of my plane was a Lima-bound LAN airplane.

The seats in TACA ERJ190. The plane was very empty for the CUZ->AQP flight.

The seats had TVs on each of them, but they did not work.

Push-Back

It was a long push back that led the plane all the way to taxiway.

The plane ascended quickly to avoid the mountains

Descending into Arequipa Airport

Arequipa looked like a city in the middle of a desert.

And the plane parked next to a LAN airplane in the airport ramp.

After TA 811 parked in Arequipa Airport ramp, all passengers bound for Arequipa disembarked. Passengers bound for Lima (myself included) stayed on board. After Arequipa-bound passengers left, flight attendants checked remaining passengers' boarding passes before directing them to new seats.

A mid-flight snack I received after takeoff.

Snack consisted of cheese-filled croissants and muffin. I also got a peach juice.
