 [Korean Air] KE 603 ICN-HKG (Seoul/Incheon->Hong Kong) trip report

KE 603 ICN-HKG (Seoul/Incheon->Hong Kong)
DEP ICN 08:30 20 SEP 2010
ARR HKG 11:20 20 SEP 2010
Flight Duration 3:50
Aircraft: B777-300

Third time to Hong Kong! The reason for today's flight was another scheduled visit to Hong Kong for internship before heading back to USA. The flight was KE 603, which I have taken a month before with B747-400 Combi (Trip Report here). Today's flight would be with B777-300 (not ER), which had been retrofitted recently to have AVOD system in all seats.  The flight was scheduled to depart at 8:30AM, arriving into Hong Kong at 11:20AM after nearly 4-hour flight.

This Korean Air B777-300 was recently repainted so that the Korean Air font looks bigger. I think it looks great on the plane! I'm loving it.

The interior of the plane with new AVOD systems.

To the left of me was a Korean Air B777-200 plane which just came in from Denpasar, Bali

A very clean looking interior before everyone comes in.

The plane was heading toward Hong Kong in no time.

Windows of this plane was showing age. It definitely needed some replacement.

For the meal I chose Korean style chicken. For the side dish it was turkey salad.

And the plane arrived into Hong Kong airspace in no time.

Some scenes of Hong Kong. You can see the newly built Stone Cutter's Bridge to the center-right.  Around this time, the plane began shaking unexpectedly. The flight attendants weren't even seated yet. I swear the plane dropped about good 100 ft at one point. I was a bit scared at the time, since the plane was so close the ground.

After you exit the terminal, turn right at this point before entering the MTR station. This would lead you to city buses terminal.

This bus is a Hong Kong Island-bound bus A21.

My first time aboard a double-decker bus! I hadn't had a chance to ride this last year.

Typical Hong Kong bakery.

First time seeing Hong Kong city from Tsim Sha Tsui in daylight.

Unfortunately I lost my camera after this point so I did not take pictures of my return flight to Korea and KE 39 flight from Seoul/Incheon to Chicago/O'Hare.
Thank you for reading my trip report nonetheless!

To HKG with KAL's B747-400 Combi
 [Korean Air] KE 603 ICN-HKG (Seoul/Incheon->Hong Kong) trip report

KE 603 ICN-HKG (Seoul/Incheon->Hong Kong)
DEP ICN 08:25 24 AUG 2010
ARR HKG 11:20 24 AUG 2010
Flight Duration: 3:55
Aircraft: B747-400 Combi

My second trip to Hong Kong! This flight came right after my flight from Chicago/O'Hare to Seoul/Incheon via KE 38. I would be traveling to Hong Kong for a good week before heading back to Korea to stay there for a month or so.
Today's flight to Hong Kong was KE 603, an early morning flight that would depart Seoul/Incheon at 8:25AM, and arriving at 11:20AM into Hong Kong after about 4-hour long flight. It would also be my first and probably my last flight with KAL's B747-400 Combi. The aircraft that I took was the last B747-400 Combi for the airline still in operation. Korean Air would eventually retire the aircraft as a passenger aircraft in December 2010.

A Korean Air B777-300ER is pulling in after being parked in an apron. It will be flying to New York/JFK as KE 81.

Awesome looking plane isn't it?

As soon as that door opened up, I was certain this plane was B747-400 Combi.

Boarding the plane.

I'm not sure if you can see it from this picture, but all B747-400 Combi needs to have a device to support the plane from the tail section. This is because the cargo section of the plane is filled up before the passengers, and the device is for extra security so that plane does not tip over.

B747-400 Combi interior. No need to install expensive AVOD system here since this aircraft was due to retire anyways by end of this year.

It was raining hard that morning.

After take off, the plane was flying toward south.

Quiet cabin. I was seated at the back most row of this plane and I was not too far away from the nose section of the plane.

Probably near Mokpo

See you in a week Korea!

For meal it was Bibimbap or seafood dish. Having had Bibimbap already in Korean Air flight from Chicago to Incheon, I ordered seafood dish. It tasted not too bad, the Chinese sauce was bit salty for my likings but overall a satisfying dish.

The plane was flying over Taiwan Island at this time.

Taiwan from above. My second time looking at Taiwan from an airplane bound for Hong Kong.

That's Taipei/Taoyuan Airport!

Not too long after the plane was approach the Hong Kong airport from the East

Perhaps north side of Kowloon.

Touchdown at local time 11:10AM

This building was under construction last year when I visited Hong kong. Now it's open.

After passing through immigration customs and baggage claim. Here I am, ready to take on Hong Kong for the second time!

 [Korean Air] KE 614 HKG-ICN (Hong Kong->Seoul/Incheon) trip report

KE 614 HKG-ICN (Hong Kong->Seoul/Incheon)
DEP HKG 15:25 29 JUN 2009
ARR ICN 19:55 29 JUN 2009
Flight Duration: 3:30
Aircraft: A330-300

Following my Korean Air KE 613 from Seoul to Hong Kong and my 4 day stay in Hong Kong and Macau (Trip Report here), it was time to travel back to Korea.  The flight was scheduled to leave in the afternoon from Hong Kong Airport, so I took the Airport Express from Hong Kong Island at around noon-time. The flight was a A330-300, the similar (if not same) aircraft that took me from Seoul to Hong Kong 3 days ago.

The scenes of Hong Kong Harbor from Airport Express

The city, as you can see, is highly developed.

On a bridge from Airport Express Terminal to Main Terminal.

A typical Norman Foster architecture element, bridge within buildings.

I stopped by at Burger King after passing through securities and customs.

From the food court, you can see a good view of the immense size of the airport terminal.

My ride to Seoul/Incheon. KE 614 A330-300.

I see Asiana B747-400 Combi pulling up after its flight from Korea.

A view from my seat

After take off.

We crossed over Taiwan Island. The airport you see down there is Taipei/Taoyuan Airport.
I would eventually fly to Taipei in 2013 (Trip Report here)

The line up of Korean Air Cargo aircraft is always impressive.

Arrived at the main terminal.

I will eventually board a Korean Air B777-300ER on my trip from Sao Paulo to LAX. (Trip Report here)

Thank you for reading my trip report!
